2. Physical therapy
Nonpharmacological treatment of knee osteoarthritis includes physical therapy, which aims to improve the overall mobility of the joints and decrease pain. This therapy also aids in the correction of joint mechanics that contribute to a deformity in the knee joint. Manual therapy is applied to increase range of motion, counterbalance, strength, and synchronized movements of the limbs. Other types of therapeutic exercises are combined with manual therapy for the purpose of reducing pain. These include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, laser, electrotherapy, and biofeedback.
