Knee osteoarthritis treatment:
1. Steroids
Pharmacologically, steroids reduce pain and swelling caused by joint inflammation and increase the resiliency of the joint against osteoarthritis load. Steroids also facilitate the healing process by lubricating and nourishing the affected joint. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) reduce pain and swelling and normalize the joints by reducing the formation of new cartilage. The most widely used NSAIDs are ibuprofen (Imodium), naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve), diclofenac (Diclopirox, Adalat), and ketoprofen (Orudis).
