What is knee osteoarthritis?
This question is important to know because it is important to know how to deal with it. Osteoarthritis in the knee (OA), also known as Degenerative Joint Disease, affects the bones, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments in the knee. It is the most prevalent form of arthritis and is caused by wear and tear on the joint. It can occur in any joint but is most common in the knees. Osteoarthritis can lead to other problems if not treated properly and in a timely fashion.
Knee osteoarthritis symptoms:
Knee pain, swelling, and deformity maybe some of the first symptoms of osteoarthritis. Limb movements can also become painful because of arthritis. Some people experience a clicking or popping feeling when walking, while others may experience slight swelling or a pinching sensation. Other symptoms may include a partial or full range of motion or both.
Other symptoms of osteoarthritis include severe pain and swelling in the joint. These symptoms are very bothersome and they cause you to experience discomfort every moment of your day. The pain is most apparent after you wake up in the morning or after you have been inactive for some time. Swelling and a lot of pain can occur both during the day and at night. Although not everyone with osteoarthritis has the same symptoms, they are still worth monitoring since these can be indicators of more serious conditions such as degenerative bone disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
